Desktop Deployment

• We currently use Deploy Studio to image all Macs (plus the Windows on a mac in business lab)
• Currently most of our laptops and desktops are Mac OS X (10.5 - 10.7)
• We have several Windows labs (Windows XP and up)
• We have one cart (30 laptops) at the HS with Linux (Ubuntu) - currently these must be imaged one at a time with Clonezilla
• Major Tasks for desktop management solution:

  • Manage settings and security, licenses and usage

• The following applications work with Windows, Mac and Linux: Filewave, IBM, LanDesk, Symantec
• We also need to determine Mountain Lion Server capabilities. Can Profile Manager and NetInstall do everything we need?
• Some notes on MDM solutions related to handling iOS, Mac, Windows, Linux. Note: looks like most of them have Windows or web based interface:
  • Airwatch: Good reviews, but will not handle Linux (does do Mac & Windows)
  • Fiberlink Maas360: Good reviews, no Linux
  • IBM Tivoli: Good reviews; Windows console, handles Win, Mac, Linux and iOS (plus other mobile OSs)
  • Symantec: Good reviews; supports everything; seems to be the most comprehensive solution
  • Casper: Great reviews - for iOS and Mac only
• Clonezilla SE is a free option to image Windows, Mac and Linux with one application, but does not have MDM capability
• Dell KASE will do Windows Mac and Linux
